Description
The Qigong brush (also called a Qigong stick) is a traditional Shaolin tool made of 108 bamboo rods bound together. In Chinese tradition 108 is a symbolic number. It is used to pat the body, usually after Qigong or kung fu practice.
How it is traditionally used
Practitioners pat the brush lightly down the arms, legs, back and shoulders. In traditional Chinese medicine and Qigong, this patting is believed to help open the meridians, the channels along which qi (vital energy) is said to flow, and to support the body’s own natural recovery.
Many people simply enjoy it as a brisk tapping massage that feels good on tired muscles after training, a long day or travel.
Thin bamboo
Made with thin bamboo rods.
Good to know
- Meridians and qi are ideas from traditional Chinese practice. They are not recognised by modern medicine.
- The brush is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.
- Do not use it on broken or bruised skin or over an injury. If you have a medical condition or are unsure, ask your doctor first.
- Not recommended for sharing. If the rods become dry or loose, oil them lightly with baby oil.
